How To Play Blackjack

June 8th 2007

Blackjack is one of the classics, one of the staples, of online casinos and it is best that any online gambler, either novice or professional, know how to play. Blackjack is played with a standard Poker card deck with just a few simple rules.

Players that have come to enjoy Blackjack realize that while Blackjack's rules are extremely simple, it's the subtle variations in the game that make it so exciting. A player is always playing against the dealer when playing Blackjack and both the dealer and the player are initially dealt two cards, one face up one face down. At this point a player is able to look at their cards and decide whether they need to hit or stand. If a player hits they are asking for another card. The object of the game is to get as close to the number twenty one as possible without going over. If a player, or the dealer, gets an Ace card with a face card they get a Blackjack, the namesake of the game. This is obviously the optimal outcome but rarely occurs.

The player can hit as many times as they need to but must realize that the more cards that they receive the greater the likelihood that they will bust, or go over. There are many rulebooks and as much advice to be had on the game of Blackjack. Some people swear that a player must never hit on anything above sixteen while others claim that eighteen is the trick. Whatever a player chooses to do it's generally best to remain consistent with the decisions over time. Of course a player can change their strategy at anytime during game play as long as it is within the rules.

A player can play knowing just these few simple rules but to truly enjoy the game it is wise to spend the time studying the game of Blackjack to get the full gaming experience.
