Before playing any kind of poker game online today, you should take a few minutes to try and learn the different winning hands, otherwise you will be committing poker suicide. After playing hundreds of hands of more, you will start to realise why these hands appear in this particular order. Let’s start by taking a look at the lowest winning hand in poker and we will work are way up through to the highest possible winning hand in poker.
In any game of poker, the lowest win is a high card, and you would be surprised by how many hands are actually won by a high card. When a hand of poker is dealt, you will be dealt to hole cards and five community cards will eventually be dealt face up. The flop is the name given to the first three community cards, then the next card is the turn and the final card is the river. A different betting round begins before the flop, after the turn and then finally, after the river has been dealt.
Let’s just say that the five community cards have all been revealed and they include a Queen, 9 and 7, 5 and 2. If you have a Jack and a 3 and if your opponent has a 10 and a 4, your Jack is higher than his 10 and therefore you win with a high card. In the event of a tie (say you both have a Jack), the second highest and third highest side card will be used to determine the winner.
The next winning hand in poker is ‘One Pair’, and again, the higher the pair the better. If you have a pair of 10’s for example and your opponent has a pair of 8’s, your pair of 10’s will win. The next best hand in poker is Two Pair, for example two 7’s and two Kings. If your opponent also happens to have two pair, the higher pair will win the hand. Therefore if he has two 2’s and two Aces, his Aces will win the hand.
The next best hand is Three Of A Kind, for example 10, 10, 10 and any other two cards. You then have a Straight, which is five cards in a sequence (for example 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 of ANY suit). The next highest valued hand in poker is a Flush, which is basically any five cards of the same suit (e.g. 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 of the SAME suit). The next best hand is a Full House (three of a kind and a pair, e.g. 7, 7, 7, Jack, Jack).
The Four of a Kind hand is the next best win (e.g. 7, 7, 7, 7, or four Queens, plus any other card) and then there’s a Straight Flush. This is when five cards appear in numerical order and when they are the same suit (e.g. 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 of hearts). The best winning hand, which most poker players have probably never even seen before, is the Royal Flush. This is basically the same as a Straight Flush, but it must be include a 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace and they must be of the same suit).
